history

The place was founded according to Wallachian law on the territory of the Thurzo family and is mentioned in writing for the first time in 1580. The first residents were given various rights and tax exemptions called lehota for 16 years . In 1828 there are 121 houses and 822 inhabitants. Originally sheep breeding was the main source of income, in the 18th and 19th centuries, however, linen weaving was the main occupation. Because of the great poverty there were great waves of emigration in the 19th and 20th centuries, but also before that in the 18th century.

The place name is derived from the name for a mountain spur between two streams, ie a "wedge" between them.
