Novoť (up to the 19th century Slovak “Novoty”; Hungarian Novoty - until 1892 Novoti ) is a place and a municipality in Okres Námestovo of Žilinský kraj in the far north of Slovakia .
geography
The municipality is located in the Slovenské Beskydy Mountains ("Slovak Beskydy"), a part of the Beskydy Mountains , on the Novoťanka and Tisoňovka streams . Novoť is 22 kilometers from Námestovo .
history
The place was founded in 1691 and was initially called after the founder M. Gyurczak Gyurkov (also Jurkov in Slovak ), in 1712 it was given its present name. Novoť belonged to the lordship of the Arwa Castle . The population occupied themselves with forestry and animal husbandry, sheep breeding, rafting, carting and crafts.
In 2001, the Novoť- Ujsoły border crossing was opened across the Beskydy main ridge to Poland.
