Oravská Lesná (until 1945 Slovak "Erdúdka" - until 1927 "Erdutka"; Hungarian Erdőtka - until 1895 Erdődka , formerly Polish Herdućka ) is a village with approx. 3,100 inhabitants in the eastern part of the Námestovo district in Slovakia .
Characteristic
The municipality borders administratively in the north on Poland, the border to the west is formed by the district boundaries to Čadca and Žilina .
The place has two hotels (Hotel Tyrapol, Penzión Severka), each with a restaurant and bar, as well as several village bars.
Oravská Lesná is known as the cold pole of Slovakia. In winter, the temperatures here drop down to -35 degrees Celsius; Snow depths of over two meters are not uncommon.
Oravská Lesná is one of the few places in Slovakia where the old mountain farmer dialect Goral is still spoken in addition to the Slovak language .
history
The place consists of several, formerly independent villages, which line up in the valley of the upper reaches of the Biela Orava river ( White Arwa ) to form a 6 km long place. Until the end of 1920, these villages were independent and formed around the historic core town of Ustredie (translated middle ... from Oravská Lesná) (then Erdúdka ). Their names have been preserved in the names of the districts:
- Brišovka
- Bučina
- Demanová
- Flajšová
- Jasenovská
- Kubinska
- Lehotská
- Mrzáčka
- Ustredie Oravská Lesná
- Pribišská
- Tanečník
The core town of Oravská Lesná was founded in 1731 by Georg Erdödy as a logging settlement, which is why the place was previously called Erdúdka (about "Erdödy village"). The place was until 1972 on the narrow-gauge forest railway Vychylovka with Vychylovka connected. It was mainly used to bring felled wood across the Beskydy mountains west to Oščadnica . In 2008, the line from Oravská Lesná-Tanečník station to the stop on the Beskyd Pass was reopened as a museum railway.
Tesla
In the 1960s, the former state-owned company TESLA established a production facility for electrical appliances in the remote mountain village as part of the Tesla Orava company based in Nižná , which has supplied the former Czechoslovakia with televisions and computers since 1980.
Today Oravská Lesná, with several independent, competing production companies for electronic assemblies, occupies a special position among the villages in Slovakia, as there is no longer agriculture, but the most modern electronics production (SMD technology) dominates the community.
