Statistics information about the Okres on statistics.sk

The Okres Čadca is an administrative unit in the north of Slovakia with 89,952 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) and an area of 761 square kilometers. Going clockwise, the Okres to the Czech borders Moravskoslezský kraj , the Polish province of Silesia , okresy Námestovo , Dolny Kubin , Zilina , Kysucké Nové Mesto , again Žilina, Bytča , for a few hundred meters to the Považská Bystrica District in kraj Trenčiansky and to the Czech Zlínský kraj .

The Okres is elongated from west to east, lies in the traditional region of Kysuce and comprises several mountainous countries: the Javorníky and the Turzovská vrchovina in the west and Kysucké Beskydy and Kysucká vrchovina in the east. These landscapes are covered by numerous individual settlements (Slov. Kopanice ). The main part of the population is concentrated in the Kysuca Valley, from Makov to Čadca to the east, from Čadca to the south flowing river. Other rivers are the Čierňanka and the Bystrica , on whose upper reaches the Nová Bystrica reservoir is located.

The Okres is well connected in terms of transport and is on international routes to the Czech Republic and Poland . Main road I / 11 ( E 75 ) running through the middle part of the Okres connects Slovakia with Czech Silesia ; a branch of it, the main road I / 12 goes to Poland. Both of these roads are to be replaced by the D3 motorway in the future . A small part of I / 18 (E 442) is located in the municipality of Makov . The road network is supplemented by state roads II / 484, II / 487, II / 520 and II / 541.

The double- track Žilina – Bohumín railway to the Czech Republic, which was once part of the Kaschau-Oderberger Railway , runs through the Okres . Two lines branch off from it in Čadca : the Čadca – Zwardoń railway connects the Slovak and Polish railway networks, while the Čadca – Makov railway serves as a local railway.

Historically, the district lies entirely in the former Trenčín county (see also the list of historical counties of Hungary ). In the administrative structure of Czechoslovakia from 1960–1990 he was part of the Okres Čadca, within the Stredoslovenský kraj ( Central Slovak Regional Association ).
