Staškov (Hungarian Szaniszlófalva - until 1907 Sztaskó ) is a municipality in the Okres Čadca of the Žilinský kraj in the far north of Slovakia . The number of inhabitants was 2,806 (December 31, 2019) .

geography

The community is located in the upper Kysuca Valley, predominantly on the right bank of the east-flowing Kysuca . The Javorníky Mountains rise to the south of the village and the Turzovská vrchovina Mountains to the north and lie under the Vysoká mountain ( 798  m nm ). The area is heavily forested. Staškov lies between the towns of Čadca , eight kilometers to the east and Turzovka , six kilometers to the west.

history

The place was created in the early 17th century by Wallachian colonization of the area and is mentioned for the first time in 1640. The municipality was initially between the goods of Castle Budatín and Strečno split and complete control alternated between these castles. In 1770 there were three mills in the village. The population occupied themselves with forestry, rafting, sheep breeding and wire tying. In 1796 the first wooden church was built, which was replaced by the current one in 1876.

Podvysoká can be reached via national road 487 ( Čadca - Turzovka - Makov ). There is also a stop on the Čadca – Makov railway line .
