history

The first written mention of the area comes from the year 1580. The area known as locum Predmér was part of the Groß-Bitsch estate . It was colonized by the Wallachians at that time . The current name is mentioned for the first time in 1592, the place itself was founded in 1598 by Georg Thurzo . The first settlers were exempted from feudal fees and some duties for 12 years. The character of the new place was predominantly agricultural, with sheep farming well represented. There was also forestry, rafting and various crafts.

After the death of the last member of the Thurzo family, the rule passed to the Esterházy family . They leased the place several times over the years, e.g. B. to the Berény family for 7000 guilders before they finally bought the place back. The first own parish was Protestant and was founded in 1614; a Catholic was only added in 1674.

In 1784 there are 4832 residents in 864 houses. In 1801 there are 5740 inhabitants. In 1850 the number of inhabitants was 7,780, of which 150 were Jews. The synagogue was built in 1898. In 1868 the place changed from the Esterházys to the Popper family.

Until 1918 the place was in Trenčín County in the Kingdom of Hungary and then came to the newly formed Czechoslovakia . In 1938 there were 11,030 residents in the whole parish.

In 1954 the now independent municipalities Dlhá nad Kysucou , Klokočov and Korňa were outsourced . Until then, the municipality was the largest non-urban municipality in Czechoslovakia, with a population of 14,000. The city statute was granted to the place on January 1st, 1968.
