Jan Milan Krkoška (born November 21, 1939 in Turzovka , Slovakia ; † July 6, 2016 in Vienna ) was a Slovak sculptor who took Austrian citizenship in 1974.

Life

In addition to his studies at the HTL , he completed an apprenticeship with the sculptor Vojtech Matusinec in Bratislava from 1956 , graduated from high school in 1959, did military service from 1959 to 1961, suffered paralysis as a result of a mountain accident, from which he recovered in 1964. He worked in a wide variety of professions and returned to sculpture in 1964, first working in the studios of the sculptors Tibor Bartfay and Juraj Hovorka and becoming a freelance visual artist in 1966. In 1967 he married Bozena. In 1968 he emigrated to Austria and came to Klagenfurt on September 12, 1968 , where he was granted asylum in accordance with the Geneva Convention and where he set up his studio in 1969 . In 1970 he became a member of the professional association of Austrian visual artists, and in 1971 he became a member of the Carinthian Art Association and the Graz Secession . Participations and solo exhibitions in Amsterdam , Barcelona , Bern , Bruck an der Mur , Darmstadt , Geneva , Görz , Graz , Judenburg , Kapfenberg , Klagenfurt, Leoben , Linz , Matrei in Osttirol , Mount Pocono (USA), Padua , Paris , Parma , Pörtschach am Wörther See , Schio , Semmering , Trieste , Udine , Villach , Völkermarkt , Waidhofen an der Ybbs , Vienna , Wiesbaden and Zurich . He has been an Austrian citizen since 1974 and from 1978 worked in his studio in the municipality of Gallizien .

In 1979 he was converted from an atheist to a believer in Christ. From this point on he was involved in the Roman Catholic Church, became a member of the Catholic Academic Association and the German Society for Christian Art. In 1984 there was the encounter with FGBMFI - handing over life to Jesus. From 1985 to the present day there are efforts to come to justice in the kingdom of God with the ups and downs of the spiritual, spiritual and material life. Furthermore, the striving to walk before God without grasping religious piety and God's righteousness. In 1989 he left the Roman Catholic Church. In September 1996 an eye was lost as a result of an accident with a rubber expander. In 1997 he sold his house in the municipality of Gallizien and moved back to Klagenfurt . From then on I dealt with painting . From 2000 to the present day he has worked as an art therapist and was a carer for alcoholics in the AGIL social pedagogy. 2002 moved to Vienna .

From 1979 onwards, the focus of his sculptural intentions was on interpreting images inspired by the Bible in a contemporary way. Since losing an eye, he has primarily devoted himself to printmaking. In his most recent exhibitions, this lesser-known side of “Milan” is also presented, giving an insight into his entire oeuvre as a lithographer .
