Podvysoká (Hungarian Határújfalu - until 1902 Podviszoka ) is a municipality in the Okres Čadca of the Žilinský kraj in the far north of Slovakia . The number of inhabitants as of December 31, 2010 was 1,309.
geography
The municipality is located in the upper Kysuca valley on the right bank of the east-flowing Kysuca , on the northern slope of the Javorníky Mountains and lies under the Vysoká mountain ( 798 m nm ), which is also the namesake for the municipality. Podvysoká is only about four kilometers from the town of Turzovka .
history
Podvysoká was created in the 17th century through the amalgamation of various small settlements in the immediate vicinity. The first written mention as Podvisoka comes from the year 1658. The municipality was a disputed area between the rulers of Budatín Castle and Strečno Castle , later the Bitsch manor also joined, which finally got the municipality.
In 1662 there were 17 subject families in the village. In 1784 Podvysoká had 51 houses, 63 families and 356 residents. In 1850 there are 560 Slovak Catholics.

Podvysoká can be reached via national road 487 ( Čadca - Turzovka - Makov ). There is also a stop on the Čadca – Makov railway line .
