The specialist magazine Der Winzer has been a newsletter of the Austrian Viticulture Association that has existed since 1945. The monthly trade journal in Vienna has a circulation of more than 13,000 copies and is largely distributed in Austria, but also in Germany, Switzerland, Italy and, in some cases, worldwide. In terms of content, DER WINZER is dedicated to the areas of viticulture , cellar technology, marketing, business and wine management. The topics are seasonally coordinated to give wine producers the opportunity to implement new techniques and current knowledge in good time. According to the publisher's own information, the magazine has a market share of more than 90% among bottle fillers and is considered the largest German-language specialist magazine on viticulture.

history

On September 30, 1884, a proponent committee was formed to found the “Association for the Protection of Austrian Viticulture” (later “Federal Association of Viticulture Austria” from 1935 and today Viticulture Association Austria” ). In 1994, the then publisher Wolfgang Brandstetter and the editor-in-chief Hans Weiß wrote the following: At the end of the 19th and first half of the 20th century, wine makers were helpless before economic and political problems. It was the top priority of the association to support the establishment of viticulture schools from a very early stage and later to improve contact with the members by founding a specialist magazine, only then is the association effective. It was determined that the notifications of the association for the protection of Austrian viticulture should appear at least quarterly free of charge for its members. Important editors-in-chief included Hermann Goethe and Ferdinand Reckendorfer . The collapse of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy in 1918 also had consequences for wine-growing representatives. After viticulture became a state matter due to the new constitution and the chambers of agriculture were subsequently founded, a reorganization also took place. The Provincial Winegrowing Association of Burgenland was founded in 1923 and the Provincial Winegrowing Association of Lower Austria in 1924. Important organizational information, but also specialist advice, was carried out in the inter-war period through the magazine “Die Landwirtschaft”. After the end of the Second World War, functionaries of the then viticulture tried to bring out a specialist journal for Austrian viticulture. Federal Councilor Leopold Breinschmied, who also led the editorial team for several years, played a key role in this. After the reorganization of the regional winegrowing associations Burgenland , Styria and Vienna at the beginning of the 1970s, "WINZER" became the official newsletter of the Federal Association of Viticulture Austria (now Viticulture Association Austria ), which has been sent to all members and subscribers every month since then. All subscribers also have unrestricted access to the subject-specific web portal and can order the digital newsletter if desired. The website of the magazine enables, among other things, a targeted archive search.
