Olga Engl (born May 30, 1871 in Prague , Bohemia , † September 21, 1946 in Berlin ) was an Austro-German actress .

Life

Growing up in an Ursuline convent, she received acting lessons from Anna Versing-Hauptmann at the Prague Conservatory . In August 1887 she made her debut as Bertha in The Conspiracy of Fiesco in Genoa at the German Theater in her hometown.

In 1888 she moved to the Stadttheater Danzig and from 1889 to 1892 she appeared on Berlin theaters. From 1892 to 1895 she was seen at the Court Theater in Munich, from 1895 to 1897 in Hamburg at the Thalia Theater and from 1897 in Hanover at the Deutsches Theater. She acted in the subjects of the salon lady and the heroine. Important roles were "Frau Flamme" in Rose Bernd , "Frau Alving" in Gespenster and "Nanderl" in the Bauernschwank Der Hochtourist .

Olga Engl has been involved in silent films since 1911, where she was a very frequent small actress. She played mothers, grandmothers and aunts in around 200 productions, often of counts or princely origins. In addition, she continued to appear on Berlin stages until shortly before her death, especially at the Theater in Behrenstrasse , at the Renaissance Theater , at the Komödienhaus and, most recently, at the stands .
