action

The bank teller Baggerson withholds a large amount of money and flees with the sum and his accomplice from law enforcement in the United States. On the one hand, he achieved some prosperity there, on the other hand, he broke with his accomplice and lover. Baggerson, in turn, does not want to let this go with impunity and betrays the ex when he does not even shrink from murder in the event of insurance fraud. The abandoned ex-lover ensures that the impostor and murderer is brought to justice, but Baggerson has planned his crimes meticulously and without a confidante, so that he cannot be proven.

When an acquittal is threatened, a jury has a brilliant idea: the man applies to the court to question the accused under hypnosis . This request is complied with, and the noble villain actually confesses the crimes he is charged with. Since Baggerson now faces a severe punishment - execution - his former lover, who only wanted to see him punished for the insurance fraud and his disloyalty to her, then takes up a gun and shoots him. The woman did not want her ex executed as a common criminal.

criticism

The Cinematographische Rundschau judged: “Mr. Bassermann as Olaf Baggerson is at the center of the plot and amazes with his safe play, his cold cynicism, the other actors also do their best. The picture is up to date in every respect, the only question is whether the censors will be friends with its content. "

Paimann's film lists summed up: “The subject is highly dramatic. Game and photos excellent. Very good scenery. (A hit.) "
