The Secret of a Night is a German silent film drama from 1915 by Franz Hofer .

When the respected banker Carlton is holding an overnight business meeting, he receives an urgent phone call. At the other end of the line, he only hears a bloodcurdling scream, whereupon Carlton has to assume that something terrible must have happened to his wife. Immediately he makes his way home when he finds his wife - bright and cheerful. It turns out that the telephone connection was apparently caused by a faulty circuit, that the alleged crime took place elsewhere. Carlton wants to investigate this mysterious matter and hires private investigator Brown to get to the bottom of things. Soon the shrewd nose of a gang of bank robbers comes on the trail.

Production notes

The Secret of a Night was censored in November 1915, banned for the duration of the war and premiered on January 1, 1919. The length of the detective film was 1004 meters, divided into four acts. The film was shot in the Messter Film Atelier in Berlin's Blücherstraße 32.
