Hans Konrad Thumb von Neuburg († March 25, 1555 ) was the Württemberg hereditary marshal .

Life

He was the son of Hereditary Marshal Konrad Thumb von Neuburg (1465–1525) and came to the court of Duke Ulrichs von Württemberg at an early age , but later lived at Stettenfels Castle near Heilbronn. He married Margarethe von Adelsheim († 1528) in 1513 . Even after Duke Ulrich murdered Hans von Hutten , the husband of his sister Ursula Thumb von Neuburg, in 1515 , Hans Konrad and his father Konrad remained loyal to the Duke. When Ulrich was expelled from Württemberg in 1519, he followed him to Mömpelgard and was later on the ducal mandate in Switzerland to recruit troops there for Ulrich's reconquest of Württemberg. After a dispute with a secretary of the Duke, Hans Konrad transferred to Austrian services. In the Peasants 'War in 1525, he showed solidarity with the rebellious peasants and thereby saved his parents' property from destruction. In the midst of the uprisings, when his father died in March 1525, he inherited the rule of Stettenfels with Gruppenbach as well as Stetten im Remstal and Aichelberg in addition to the Württemberg hereditary marshal office . He sold the rule of Stettenfels in 1527 to Wolf Philipp von Hürnheim, but kept the hereditary marshal office originally associated with it. In 1529 he was accepted into the Swabian Federation . From 1530 he promoted the Reformation in Koengen and Stetten. After Duke Ulrich's return in 1534, he held a high position within the Württemberg government. In 1541 there was a break with Duke Ulrich, who accused Hans Konrad of sympathy for his son, who later became Duke Christoph . Hans Konrad lost the office of hereditary marshal and sided with the emperor in the Schmalkaldic War . He died in 1555 and was buried in the Köngener Church. His last place of residence was Hammetweil Castle near Neckartenzlingen , which he acquired in 1542 and which has remained in the Thumb von Neuburg family until today .

From the marriage with Margarethe von Adelsheim a son and three daughters were born. His son Konrad was enfeoffed again in 1553 with the office of hereditary marshal.
