Hans Lämmermann (born January 31, 1891 in Nuremberg ; †?) Was the first German school psychologist .

life and career

He was trained by William Stern at the University of Hamburg. In 1922 he was employed as a school psychologist by City School Councilor Joseph Anton Sickinger in Mannheim as part of the special Mannheim school system . However, he remained the only psychologist in this position for decades.

Above all, Lämmermann was supposed to help subject pupils to the assessments that the Mannheim school system brought with it, which differentiated into special trains for the gifted, transition trains, support classes and auxiliary schools .

Lämmermann received his doctorate in 1930 under W. Peters on the subject of "Typology and Etiology of School Counseling". Lämmermann tried unsuccessfully in 1935 to establish a “Mannheim process” under the title “The intelligence test in the service of the selection process for the auxiliary school”, which would have assigned the school psychologist the main decision for assignment to the auxiliary school . Despite Lämmermann's efforts, this decision in Germany continued to be made exclusively by the teachers for a long time. His doctoral supervisor Peters was ousted from his position after 1933, Lämmermann himself succumbed to further restrictions after the Mannheim school system was abolished in 1934/35 and had to stop his work entirely during the Second World War.
