Hans Ludwig Zankl

Hans Ludwig Zankl (born October 5, 1911 in Kiel , † February 14, 1977 in Cologne ) was a German journalist , newspaper scholar and advertising specialist.

Life

Youth and education

Hans Ludwig Zankl went to school in Nuremberg . In 1928, at the age of 17, he became a freelancer at 8 Uhr-Blatt in Nuremberg. In 1929 he was special reporter for this newspaper at the student world championships in athletics in Darmstadt. In 1931 he won the employee competition for the 8 o'clock sheet . In 1932 he passed his Abitur and began his studies in Erlangen ( economics , statistics , newspaper studies , art history ). At the same time, he completed a traineeship at the Fränkischer Kurier newspaper . In 1935 he obtained his doctorate on an art history topic. phil.

Career in the "Third Reich"

In 1935 Zankl became head of department at the Franconian Courier . In 1936 his first publications on newspaper studies appeared. In the same year he became head of the economic, press and statistical office of the city of Trier . In 1937 he went back to Nuremberg and became a councilor in the statistical office; from 1939 he was editor of the municipal monthly magazine Nürnberger Schau and head of the communal news center. During this time he was also a lecturer at the Hindenburg University in Nuremberg, where he gave lectures on newspaper studies. In 1940 Zankl was appointed head of the Institute for Newspaper Studies. In the fall of 1940, he received his conscription for military service , but sat initially his scientific work as much as possible on until the Institute in 1945 with a raid was destroyed.

Post-war career

After his release from American captivity , Zankl worked as a freelancer before becoming head of the press, tourism and exhibition office of the city of Kiel in 1950 . In 1954, the city of Cologne appointed him director of the tourist office. In 1956, Zankl co-founded the "Rheinisch-Westfälische Werbefachschule" (today West German Academy for Communication , WAK), which he ran with Siegfried Behn until 1963 . After that, Zankl was the sole headmaster until his death. During this time he expanded the advertising school to become an advertising academy. In 1964, together with Ilse Wolff, Zankl founded the "German Seminar for Tourism", which is now known as the "German Seminar for Tourism".
