Hans Müller (goldsmith)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Müller was the name of two goldsmiths active in Augsburg in the second half of the 15th century , whose personalities can no longer be clearly separated today. The goldsmiths' coats of arms (Inv.No. 2686 and 2687) of both have been preserved in the municipal art collections in Augsburg, which show two completely different coats of arms, so that it can be assumed that they probably had nothing to do with each other and also not were related. While one of the two master goldsmiths probably died in the 1490s, the year 1504 is documented as the date of death for the other. One of the two is likely to have created the only work still associated with this name today. It is a monstrance cast in silver and chased with partially gilded statuettes, which is signed and dated to the year 1470. It is located in the parish church of St. Moritz in Augsburg.
