Hans Meyer (lawyer)

Hans Meyer (born March 16, 1933 in Aachen ) is a German lawyer and university professor and former President of the Humboldt University in Berlin .

Life

Meyer completed his law studies in Bonn , Freiburg and Munich in 1957 with the legal traineeship, after which he was a research assistant in Bonn and general secretary of the German Lawyers' Association . His doctorate took place in 1967 on the topic of “Financial Constitution of the Communities”, in 1970 he completed his habilitation with the thesis “Electoral system and constitutional order”.

After working for the Science Council , Meyer was professor for state, administrative and financial law at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main from 1974 . Between 1990 and 1993 he headed the structure and appointment committee of the law faculty of the Humboldt University in Berlin as chairman . In 1996 he was elected President of Humboldt University and held the office until 2000. Meyer is a reviewer for various public institutions, e.g. B. for the Hessian Court of Auditors. As an authorized representative in proceedings before the Federal Constitutional Court, he went to court judgments that declared the effect of the negative voting weight and the unlimited number of overhang seats in the Federal Election Act to be unconstitutional.
