Hans Nogler

Hans Nogler (born February 28, 1919 in Vienna ; † May 30, 2011 in Selva di Val Gardena ) was a ski racer . The South Tyrolean grew up as the son of a wood prosthesis carver from Val Gardena in Selva Val Gardena and was the brother of Sophie Nogler . He started for Italy , then for Germany and finally for Austria .

Nogler won five Italian championship titles in 1938 and 1939 (2 × slalom, 2 × combination and 1 × downhill). In 1944 he became German champion in downhill skiing. At the Olympic Winter Games in 1948 , he achieved 9th place for Austria in the downhill and eighth place in the combination . In 1950 he won the Harriman Cup and in 1952 he was Men's Roch Cup Champion.

After this racing career, he was a ski instructor, including in the United States ( Sun Valley ). He owned a hotel named after it ("Sun Valley") in Selva di Val Gardena, where he lived until his death.
