Athletic career

In 1949, the ZSG Altenburg was one of 14 sports communities that had qualified for the newly established Eastern Zone Football League (later the GDR Oberliga). The 33-year-old defender Hans Pohle was also part of the ZSG's line-up. He was called up in the defense from the start in the first league season and ended up making 25 appearances in the 26 point games played. On the 5th matchday he scored his only goal in the zones / GDR-Oberliga in a 5-1 home win against Einheit Meerane . He was also in the playoff for relegation against ZSG Anker Wismar, which Altenburg won 3-2. In the 1950/51 season, Pohle was only used in 14 of the 17 league games in the first half of the season. In the course of this season the central sports community was transformed into the company sports community (BSG) Stahl Altenberg. In 1953/54 Pohle only acted as a substitute player and only played in three league matches, where he was only in the starting line-up on the 10th matchday. At the end of the season, the BSG Stahl had to be relegated from the league, and Pohle ended his career in top football at the age of 36.
