Hans Rådström

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hans Vilhelm Rådström (* 1919 ; † 1970 ) was a Swedish mathematician who dealt with function theory and functional analysis .

Radström received his PhD under Torsten Carleman (and Fritz Carlson ) at Stockholm University (Convexity and Norm in Topological Groups). From 1949 to 1950 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study , where he worked with Olof Hanner . In 1952 he became a lecturer at Stockholm University and in 1969 professor at Linköping University .

He proved an embedding theorem named after him (the non-empty convex compact subsets of a real normalized vector space can be isometrically embedded in a convex cone of a normalized real vector space).

His PhD students include Per Enflo and Martin Ribe (who only received his PhD after his death).

In 1952 he was co-editor of Nordisk Matematisk Tidskrift.
