Olof Hanner (born December 7, 1922 in Stockholm , † September 19, 2015 in Gothenburg ) was a Swedish mathematician who studied topology and convex geometry.

Life

Hanner received his doctorate in 1952 from Stockholm University ( rectraction and extension of mappings ). From 1949 to 1950 he was at the Institute for Advanced Study , where he worked with Hans Rådström . 1963 to 1989 he was professor at the University of Gothenburg .

In addition to topology, he dealt with the combinatorial game theory for the board game Go as well as with the mathematics of Bridge in a book .

In 1956 he introduced the Hanner polytopes named after him , which are defined recursively (starting with a simple line segment) and are completed with the formation of the Cartesian product and the formation of duality. Alternatively, they can also be formed with a Cartesian product and a direct sum. Hanner spaces are finite dimensional Banach spaces with Hanner polytopes as unit balls.
