The Hans Rock is an isolated cliff , washed over by the sea, off the Ingrid Christensen coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth Land . It is located 5 km north of Magnetic Island in front of the Vestfold Mountains in Prydz Bay .

The research vessel Kista Dan ran aground here on January 29, 1955. The Antarctic Names Committee of Australia named the rock in 1961 after Hans Christian Petersen, the ship's captain.
