Magnetic Iceland (from the English loosely translated magnetic island ) is a small island off the Ingrid Christensen Coast of the East Antarctic Princess Elisabeth country . It is located in Prydz Bay 400 meters northeast of Turner Island in front of the Breidnes Peninsula in the Vestfold Mountains .

Norwegian cartographers mapped it using aerial photographs taken during the Lars Christensen Expedition in 1936/37 . The island was first visited by participants in the Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions under the direction of polar explorer Phillip Law on March 3, 1954. It got its name after magnetic measurements by geophysicist Jim Brooks had shown an unusual magnetic declination .
