Hans Sander (resistance fighter)

Hans Sander (born May 9, 1911 in Wilhelmsburg, today Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg , † February 23, 1996 in Himbergen ) was a German resistance fighter .

Life

Hans Sander grew up in a social democratic milieu. He trained as a locksmith and at the age of 16 joined the Socialist Workers' Youth (SAJ). In 1929 he became a member of the SPD and in 1932 he joined the defense organization " Reichsbanner Schwarz-Rot-Gold " in defense of the Weimar Republic . After 1933 Hans Sander became head of the illegal SAJ Hamburg-Wilhelmsburg . His arrest in April 1935 was followed by mistreatment and two years in prison. After the end of the war, Hans Sander became involved in the SPD. From 1968 to 1970 he was chairman of the SPD district Harburg .

After his death in 1996 in Wilhelmsburg, Hans-Sander-Strasse was named after him.
