Hans Schmotzer

Hans Schmotzer (born May 1, 1883 ; † 1962 ) was a German entrepreneur and mayor.

Career

Schmotzer was born the son of a brickworks owner. After training and military service, he founded a bicycle shop in Windsheim in 1905 , to which he joined the sale of agricultural machinery and a workshop. He developed his machine factory Schmotzer from the smallest beginnings into one of the most important and well-known companies in the Bavarian agricultural machinery industry. From 1910 he produced his first own front car for mowing machines and grist mills. In 1922 he started the production of hoeing machines, in 1926 the production of potato harvesters, which he exported all over the world. He created social facilities for the workforce and supported the construction of apartments.

From 1952 he was honorary mayor of the city of Windsheim. During his tenure, great advances were made in road construction, water supply, sewage disposal and school building. He was also a member of the district council and the district committee of the Uffenheim district as well as chairman of the Windsheim branch of the IHK for Middle Franconia.
