Hans Seifert (engineer)

Hans Seifert (born October 30, 1927 ; † February 27, 2012 in Lüdenscheid ) was a German engineer and university professor .

Life

After high school and an apprenticeship as a mechanic, Seifert studied mechanical engineering at the University of Karlsruhe from 1949 to 1953 . He then worked until 1957 as a scientific assistant at the Karlsruhe chair for machine design and automotive engineering. In 1960, Karl Kollmann did his doctorate on a method for calculating unsteady gas flows. Until 1962 he was head of the development and research department of the Mannheim engine works, then until 1969 technical director of Gebr. Seifert in Lüdenscheid. In 1969 Seifert was appointed to the University of Bochum , which had recently been built , where he was appointed to the first chair for machine elements and construction technology at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. Initially, he focused on engine construction. Later, computer-aided design was added as a focus , which is why Seifert is considered a pioneer of CAD technology. He held the chair until his retirement in 1993. Even afterwards he continued to work in the field of construction methodology. In the last years of his life, he worked on numerous works in fuel cell technology.

Seifert published over 90 publications.

Isykon

Seifert founded Isykon Software GmbH in 1979, based in Bochum , in order to further develop and market the CAD software PROREN as a spin-off . In 1992 Isykon went bankrupt; The software and customer base were taken over by the company Intergraph from Ismaning .
