Hans Strigel the Elder
Hans Strigel the Elder (* in Memmingen ; † 1462 ibid) was a painter . He was the founder of the Memmingen School and the Strigel family of artists .
Live and act
Hans Strigel the Elder was born in the Upper Swabian town of Memmingen . His year of birth is unknown. He painted many altars, frescoes and pictures for churches and monasteries in the Upper Swabian region and in the Allgäu. Many wood carvings also come from his workshop. He died in his native town in 1462, leaving behind three sons and three daughters.

The male descendants of Hans Strigel d. Ä. were all artists, what became of the female descendants is not known. The sons were Petrus Strigel , Hans Strigel the Younger and Ivo Strigel . The daughters were called Anna Strigel, Ursula Strigel and Agatha Strigel.
