Hans Ulrich Rentsch

Hans Ulrich Rentsch (born July 2, 1917 in Langenthal ) is a Swiss diplomat and author.

Rentsch studied history in Basel , London and Oxford .

He was in the Swiss diplomatic service for over two decades. From April 1954 he was diplomatic secretary in New Delhi , 1955/56 in Paris, 1957 in Alexandria and 1958–1961 at the Consulate General in Berlin. In August 1961 he reported to Robert Kohli about the barrier between East and West Berlin and the preparations for the construction of the Berlin Wall .

From 1948 he was a permanent employee of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung. He also writes historical works about Switzerland. In 1990 he was awarded the City of Winterthur Culture Prize.
