Hans Uwe Hielscher (* 1945 ) is a German organist , carillonneur and composer .

biography

Hielscher studied church music at the Hochschule für Musik in Detmold ( A-exam ). He completed his studies in Paris and Rouen. He also trained as a carillonneur in Utrecht . From 1969 to 1973 he was a church musician in the Protestant island church on Juist . Between 1973 and 1979 he worked at the old town Nicolaikirche in Bielefeld . From 1979 until his retirement in March 2010 he worked as an organist and carillonneur at the Marktkirche in Wiesbaden . Here he initiated the year-round Saturday concert series “Organ Music at Market Time”, mostly played by himself, as well as organ concerts with international guest organists. He has been playing a New Year's Eve organ concert regularly since 1979, with his colleague Gabriel Dessauer von St. Bonifatius until 2010, and since then with his successor Thomas Frank .

In his retirement he will stay with the community with half a job. Thomas Jörg Frank was appointed as his successor on March 1, 2010 as the market church cantor.

From 1987 to 2004, Hielscher held the office of Kurhaus organist in the Wiesbaden Kurhaus . In 1985 he worked in an exchange program with Prof. Dr. Samuel Swartz as organist at the Immanuel Presbyterian Church in Los Angeles . From 1986 to 1994 he taught regularly as visiting professor at the University of Redlands in California.

Hielscher has played over 3700 organ concerts worldwide in almost all European countries as well as on 70 tours in the USA and several times in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, French Polynesia, South Africa, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangkok. Many of his radio and television recordings as well as most of the 18 CD recordings to date (published by Motette, IFO, Organophon and Wergo / Schott) are dedicated to French organ music of the late Romantic period, Anglo-American music and orchestral transcriptions. His organ compositions have been published by German and American publishers, as are his books "Alexandre Guilmant - Life and Work" and "Famous Organs of the USA".
