Hans von Matt (businessman)

Hans von Matt , first name Johann von Matt , (born August 7, 1842 in Stans , † September 30, 1900 in Lucerne ) was a Swiss traveling salesman, editor , publisher , antiquarian and writer .

His father was Caspar von Matt , the founder of the von Matt second-hand bookshop . Together with his brother Josef, he took over the second-hand bookshop in 1884. From 1874 to 1877 he was Nidwalden district administrator, from 1877 to 1879 mayor and until 1883 in the local council of Stans, 1876 to 1877 constitutional council, 1877 to 1880 poor councilor from Stans, 1877 to 1883 chief judge, 1889 to 1891 Kirchmeier, 1890 to 1896 Catholic conservative national councilor , 1890-1898 Councilor and Director of education from 1895 to 1898. His son was the politician Hans von Matt who also worked as an antiquarian. His son Josef von Matt (1900–1988) then ran the business. In 1950 Josef von Matt jun. (* 1929) took over the antiquarian bookshop and handed it over to his son and current owner Martin von Matt in 1997 .
