Hanseatic Bar Association Hamburg

The Hanseatic Bar Association Hamburg (RAK) is one of 28 bar associations in Germany. It is a corporation under public law and has its seat in Hamburg . The Hanseatic Bar Association Hamburg is the self-governing organization of the Hamburg legal profession . All lawyers admitted in Hamburg and the Hamburg law firms are members of the bar association by law.

The Hamburg Bar Association is professionally and organizationally independent, it is only subject to the legal supervision of the judicial authority of the Free and Hanseatic City of Hamburg . The main tasks of the Bar Association include:

  • the professional supervision of its members,
  • the award of specialist lawyer titles ,
  • the acceptance of the final examination in the state-recognized training occupation of legal assistant ,
  • mediation in the event of differences of opinion between lawyers and between lawyers and their clients, particularly in matters of fees ,
  • Representing the interests of lawyers in relation to politics, the state and society.

The Presidium and the Board of Directors of the Hanseatic Bar Association are made up of honorary lawyers. The board is elected by the members of the chamber at their meeting, the board in turn elects a presidium from among its members. The current president is Christian Lemke.
