history

The building that today bears the name of the brewery dates back to the 18th century. It has a steep gable roof, of which the old roof structure has been preserved. The facade is muddy to the street. Today's entrance door on the ship bridge on the left side of the building was originally a gate passage, above that was the loading gate axis with a gable containing a crane boom. The right side was used for residential purposes. The arched entrance there preserved an old carved door with a door knocker. For centuries the building was the location of the Sonnberg-Rum company. There used to be numerous rum factories in Flensburg, which is why Flensburg was also known as the rum city. In the 20th century, numerous Flensburg rum houses closed, many of which still have the old buildings and courtyards. In 1998/99 the Berentzen Group took over the most important company in Flensburg's rum and spirits production. The production was stopped soon after in the "Rumstadt" Flensburg and relocated to Haselünne . In 2000 the Hansens Brewery moved from the Nordermarkt to the building at the port . It has been located in the listed building of the former Rumhaus Sonnberg in Schiffbrücke 16. From 1781 until the end of the 1990s it was the parent company of the Rumhaus Sonnberg. The building was renovated in accordance with the Monument Protection Act . It was based on the old plans of the building.

On the outskirts on Neue Straße, an access road remained after the renovation, above which the Sonnenberg lettering can still be found. The interior production rooms of the rum factory were completely changed by the renovation. Doors from the 18th century have also been preserved in the floor area. The associated part of the building at Schiffbrücke 17 was later demolished. It was a former stable building on which there was a half-sided, stepped gable with a mansard roof .

When the brewery moved, the dining room also expanded. The Hansens Brewery is one of the two breweries that are based in Flensburg. It is more north than the larger Flensburg brewery and is therefore the northernmost brewery in Germany . The brewery sells the following types of beer all year round: Hansen's Pilsener (approx. Alc. 5.0 vol.%) And Hansen's black beer (approx. Alc. 5.0 vol.%) Various other types of beer are available depending on the season. Occasionally special beers are also served.
