Hansjörg Schäfer

Hansjörg Schäfer (born February 17, 1944 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and former member of the Bundestag.

Life

Schäfer graduated from high school in 1964 and then studied medicine at the Universities of Mainz and Homburg. In 1970 he passed his state examination, after which he did his community service at the technical relief organization. Since 1976 he has worked as a resident gynecologist in Kaiserslautern.

politics

Schäfer joined the ÖTV trade union and the SPD in 1969. He was initially chairman of the Pro Familia branch and a member of Amnesty International. After joining the party, in 1985 he became chairman of the Kaiserslautern sub-district and a member of the Palatinate District Board, the Rhineland-Palatinate State Committee and the Party Council. In 1994 Schäfer was also elected to the Bundestag, to which he belonged for two legislative terms until 2002.
