Hansruedi Schmid (born October 7, 1928 in Basel ; † January 19, 2012 ) was a Swiss politician .

Life

Schmid had a doctorate in law . Until his election to the government in 1976, he was head of the Basel-Stadt employment office. For several years he was also president of the VPOD Basel union .

From 1964 Schmid was a representative of the SP on the Grand Council of the Canton of Basel-Stadt , which he presided over in 1972/73.

In 1976 he stood in the second round of the government council elections against the official candidate of the SP, Helmut Hubacher , and won. He was expelled from the SP. Schmid headed the medical department for two terms as a non-party member. In 1979/80 he presided over the government. In 1984 he was not re-elected. He then worked for a few years as secretary of the Association of Importers of Pharmaceutical Specialties .

Schmid was married and lived in the Gellert district in Basel-St. Alban . He was an enthusiastic carnival enthusiast.
