Hanswalter Graf
Hanswalter Graf (born March 19, 1961 in Oberdiessbach ) is a Swiss conceptual artist .
Live and act
Graf grew up in Thun and attended the teachers' seminar in Spiez from 1976 to 1981 . From 1986 to 1993 he studied integration art and architecture at the Düsseldorf Art Academy under Christian Megert . At this time he also began his studies on buildings and urban development projects with social and sculptural aspects, such as Shigeru Ban or Rural Studio.
In the mid-1990s, Graf decided to concentrate exclusively on realizing projects in public spaces. Since then, the focus has been on architectural, spatial or social collaborations with the respective users or other groups. They are long-term projects that extend over months or even over several years. The projects are often commissioned by municipalities, schools, companies, associations and occasionally also from art and construction processes.
Under Graf's guidance, art becomes a form of action. He wants to encourage those involved to actively intervene in their environment and change it. The implemented projects are tailored to the specific context in each case and are therefore very different: installations and wall paintings, backdrops, street signs or advertising, markings, pictures, bartered objects, vehicles, but also architectural elements or small buildings.
