Haptonomy

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Haptonomy (gr. "Doctrine of touch" ) is one of alternative medicine doctors, midwives and naturopaths method offered for obstetrics and monitoring, psychotherapy and medical treatment ( Haptosynesie ) and for terminal care . It was developed in the 1940s by the Dutchman Frans Veldman and is now mainly used in France.

During pregnancy and childbirth support, contact with the child should be achieved in the womb through gentle touch. The parents are guided by the therapist. Conceptually, modern machine-assisted obstetrics is criticized as impersonal. Instead, haptonomy promotes the development of the bond between the child and the parents, especially between the father and the child. At the same time, it enables a harmonious and painless birth process.

Haptonomy is not part of university medical care. Veldman himself has hardly any scientific publications, but has authored several books and conducted lecture tours in various countries. The private CIRDH (Center International de Recherche et de Développement de l'Haptonomie, in English: International Center for Research and Development of Haptonomie) in Oms , southern France, offers appropriate courses and claims that only people are authorized to treat haptonomics who were trained there.
