The Viking Harald, innocently banished to Vinland, is able to restore peace between the Viking colony and the Indians, drives back with the tribute for his king and uncovered a conspiracy of his supposed friends, which leads to his rehabilitation and further adventures.

Liliane and Fred Funcken wrote and sketched the adventure series. In 1966 and 1967 Jacques Acar provided the text for two short stories. The series appeared between 1956 and 1967 in the Belgian and from 1956 to 1987 in the French edition of Tintin . Le Lombard began album issuance in 1958, which was completed by Chlorophylle in 1980. In the German-speaking countries, an adventure by Harald le Viking was published in the children's magazine Pony in the late 1950s under the title Red Gold and Rauhe See . The Buzemi Verlag published the first episode in the Mill's Comics International series, which appeared in 1984, under the title Die Nebelinsel .
