Harald Nielsen (born July 20, 1892 in Bårse, Vordingborg Kommune , † December 22, 1977 in Hellerup ) was a Danish silver designer for Georg Jensen . He was one of the company's leading designers in the 1920s and 1930s and Jensen's closest collaborator. One of his most famous designs is the Pyramid product line from 1926.

Life

Nielsen was born as the youngest child of pastors Søren Nielsen and Lydia Kold. His father died when he was only a year old and his mother moved the family to Copenhagen. He wanted to become a painter, which the family's economic situation did not allow. His eldest sister Johanne married Georg Jensen in 1907. In 1909 Nielsen began an apprenticeship in the silver workshop of his brother-in-law. Even as an apprentice, Nielsen created the drawings for one of the workshop's catalogs.

He soon started creating his own designs and developing his own style.

In 1958 he was appointed deputy director of the company. He retired in 1962, but remained an artistic advisor until 1967.

In 1925 his works were part of Georg Jensen's contribution to the Exposition internationale des Arts Décoratifs et industriels modern in Paris. Nielsen's works are represented in the Designmuseum Danmark , among others .
