Ivan Avramow Avramow ( Bulgarian Иван Аврамов Аврамов ; born June 27, 1868 in Sopot , † April 6, 1945 in Sofia ) was a major general of the armed forces in Tsarist Bulgaria .

Life

Major General Ivan Avramov was seriously injured in the bombing of the Sveta Nedelya Cathedral on April 16, 1925.

Ivan Avramow Avramow first attended primary schools in Sopot and Karlovo and then the boys' high school in Plovdiv . In November 1885 he joined the 1st Company of the Student Legion and trained as an officer in the armed forces from 1910 to 1913 at the military school in Sofia . After graduation, he was taken on May 18, 1889 as a lieutenant in the 22nd Infantry Regiment and promoted there on January 1, 1893 to first lieutenant . In 1894 he was transferred to the 9th Infantry Regiment and in 1899 company commander in the 21st Infantry Regiment, where he was promoted to captain on January 1, 1900 . Subsequently, in 1900 he was briefly transferred to the 4th Reserve Regiment, but shortly thereafter in 1900 initially chief of the 2nd company in the 22nd Infantry Regiment and in 1904 chief of the 1st Company in the 21st Infantry Regiment. With this he took part in the Balkan Wars from 1912 to 1913 and was promoted to major on September 22, 1912 .

Avramov was then used as an officer in the headquarters of the 2nd Military Inspection Region from 1913 to 1915. In September 1915 he was during the First World War, shortly before the war Bulgaria's entry on the part of the Central Powers commander of the 2nd Battalion of the 21st Infantry Regiment and was, as such, a month later, on Oct. 1, 1915 to lieutenant colonel promoted. In 1916 he took over the post as commander of the 9th Infantry Regiment and was wounded in this application on 21 November 1916 and fell into Allied captivity. After his liberation, he was promoted to colonel on October 14, 1917 and was successively commander of the 1st Brigade of the 1st Infantry Division, commander of the 30th regimental district and commander of the Sofia garrison magazine. After his promotion to major general on January 15, 1921, he was due to his war-related disability for special use. For his services he was awarded the Knight's Cross and the Officer's Cross of the Military Order for bravery .

During the funeral service for General Konstantin Georgiev , who was killed in an attack by the Communists on April 14, 1925, Major General Ivan Avramov was seriously injured in the bombing of the Sveta Nedelya cathedral on April 16, 1925. The number of victims is given as 128, 134 and more than 213. It is certain that more than a hundred people died in the attack and another 500 were injured. Among the injured, however, were the Bulgarian Prime Minister Aleksandar Zankov , the Interior Minister Ivan Rusew , the Deputy Speaker of Parliament Boris Wasov , the later Prime Minister Andrei Lyaptschew , the Metropolitan of Sofia Stefan and the influential banker Atanas Burov . Among the victims were 12 generals, 15 colonels, 7 lieutenant colonels, 3 majors, 9 captains and 3 members of parliament, and more than 25 women and children.
