Harald Rückert

Harald Rückert (born June 1958 in Nuremberg ) is a German Protestant theologian. He has been bishop of the United Methodist Church (UMC) in Germany since 2017 .

Life

After graduating from high school, Rückert first studied food technology at the Technical University of Munich-Weihenstephan, but then decided on the pastor's office. After an internship in Munich, he studied at the UMC theological seminar in Reutlingen from 1980 . He then worked as a pastor in the Hof - Stammbach district from 1984 and in the Schweinfurt - Würzburg district from 1988 . From 2000 to 2010 he was superintendent for the church district of Reutlingen, then until 2017 senior pastor in the Reutlingen-Erlöserkirche district. In addition to his parish activities, he represented his church twice at the general conference, the highest body of the global UMC, and in various ecumenical organizations, e.g. B. on the board of the Working Group of Christian Churches Baden-Württemberg . He also deals with questions of church building , church leadership and development management. He also developed further training measures on these topics.

Rückert was elected bishop in the fourth ballot on March 15, 2017 by the Central Conference of the Evangelical Methodist Church, of which he has been a member since 1992. On March 19, 2017, he was solemnly introduced in a church service and took over the official duties in May 2017 as the successor to Rosemarie Wenner . His term of office is four years.

Rückert is married and has three adult children with his wife.
