Harald Welte (2010)

Harald Welte (* 1979 , pseudonym LaForge ) is a German programmer and activist of the Free Software movement . He became known through the gpl-violations.org project , with which he first wanted to draw attention to violations of the GNU General Public License and also won legal disputes. For this he received the Free Software Advancement Award 2007 from the Free Software Foundation . He is a member of the development team for netfilter / iptables , the firewall in the Linux kernel . Welte was significantly involved in Openmoko until 2007, but then left the project for reasons of time. From 2008 to the beginning of 2010 he worked as a consultant for VIA Technologies .

Since 2009 he has been working for the independent GSM projects OpenBSC and OsmocomBB . Welte implemented the TETRA standard for OsmocomTETRA, for example . In 2011 he founded the company sysmocom , which offers commercial services related to these projects.

In May 2016 he achieved the inclusion of an implementation of the GPRS tunneling protocol in the Linux kernel (version 4.7).
