Haramija (from Turkish harami for villain, robber, bandit) denotes a robber or bandit in Southeastern Europe . As Harambaša (. Turk haramibaşı < harami ( "Bandit") + baş ( "head") + possessive suffix -I, "leader of the Haramija") referred to the leader of a gang Haramija or of outlaws .

The term Haramija was also used for certain soldiers or mercenaries . In the Thirty Years War, Haramija fought as part of the Croatian Cavalry on the side of Wallenstein . Stories about the atrocities of war by these troops were allegedly promoted in a targeted manner to scare the opponents.
