Hard bridge

The Hardbrücke is an important north-south connection on the inner-city west bypass from Zurich . The 1350 m long bridge begins in the Zurich district of Wipkingen , where it continues along Rosengartenstrasse and crosses the Limmat . It then leads to the Hardbrücke S-Bahn station and on over the track field in the front station of the main station . After crossing it, the bridge ends in the Hard district at Hardplatz and turns into Hardstrasse, which leads to Albisriederplatz . 70,000 vehicles cross the Hardbrücke every day.

construction

Hardbrücke in June 2010 during renovation

The Hardbrücke was built in the years 1969 to 1972. In the years 2009 to 2011 the bridge was renovated. The construction work, delayed by a little more than two years due to objections, was necessary because the large number of heavy trucks - around ten percent of the traffic - took a toll on the bridge. But safety also had to be increased so that, for example, if a train derailed, no pillars and thus the bridge could collapse.

Cuts

Section Rosengartenstrasse - Escher-Wyss Platz

On this section the Hardbrücke leads on a second level over the Wipkingerstrasse, which crosses the Limmat as a bridge. The lanes of Wipkingerstrasse are on the left and right of the Hardbrücke. The route of tram line 13 is directly below the Hardbrücke on this section.

There is a bus stop above Escher-Wyss-Platz . Below this, Escher-Wyss-Platz is currently being completely redesigned. After the end of the renovation in connection with the new Zurich West tram , there will be a large tram crossing and a significantly reduced intersection. The tram stops that were until recently under the bridge, in the middle of a large roundabout, were moved to Limmatstrasse in front of the KV Zurich at the beginning of 2009. At the level of Escher-Wyss-Platz there are exit ramps for both directions, but only one access ramp (towards Rosengartenstrasse / Bucheggplatz ).

Section Escher-Wyss Platz - Hardbrücke S-Bahn station

On this section, the Hardstrasse lanes are to the left and right of the Hardbrücke. Most of the parking spaces are located below the bridge. The Zurich West tram has also been running under the bridge in this section since 2011 . In the southern part of the section there are access ramps in both directions and an exit ramp from the north. There are also stops for the bus lines at the Hardbrücke S-Bahn station. The station is built at right angles to the Hardbrücke and is located at the northern end of the track field of Zurich main station.

Section S-Bahnhof Hardbrücke - Hardplatz

On this section, the bridge crosses the tracks of the main station before it joins Hardstrasse at Hardplatz. The track crossing is the only bridge section with pedestrian walkways on both sides.

Public transport

The entire length of the Hardbrücke is part of the route of the two trolleybus routes 72, 33 and 83. There are several stops on the bridge. When the station Zurich Hardbrücke is a connection to the S-Bahn network . Another traffic junction is Escher-Wyss-Platz. The tram lines 4 , 13 and 17 are located under the bridge in the northern section .

In December 2017, a new tram route for tram line 8 was put into operation as a tram connection between the existing Hardplatz and Schiffbau stops, which crosses the tracks of the railway on the Hardbrücke and thus offers a new connection with the Zurich West tram as a tangential line .
