The Bucheggplatz is a square and transportation hub in the city of Zurich . It is located in District 6 at the lowest point between Zürichberg and Käferberg in the transition from Limmattal to Glatttal or from the city center and Wipkingen to Oerlikon .

Space design

Bucheggplatz is laid out in the form of a large roundabout into which Tièchestrasse from Hönggerberg , Hofwiesenstrasse (Oerlikon – Schaffhauserplatz), Rötelstrasse and Guggachstrasse flow. Bucheggstrasse, part of the east-west connection Hardbrücke - Milchbuck, crosses under the square in the Buchegg tunnel and is also connected to the large roundabout system with connecting structures on both sides. The Käferholzstrasse leads to the Käferberg, whose forest areas in the northeast almost extend to Bucheggplatz.

In addition to the existing pedestrian crossings at ground level, a cross-shaped system of pedestrian crossings creates further connections between the main axes and the public transport stop of the Zurich public transport company in the middle of the square, as well as to the Buchegg community center , which occupies a large area northeast of the square.

Somewhat deeper and extends transversely to the Bucheggtunnel Wipkingen Tunnel the SBB - Route HB Zurich, Zurich Oerlikon .

Buildings in the area

Only a few houses are located directly on the roundabout, the majority of which are residential buildings with a few floors. One house is even within the roundabout.

The most striking building is the Guggach commercial building , on the ground floor of which a Denner branch is rented. The commercial building was converted into an apartment hotel.

Public transport hub

Lines

Bucheggplatz is also a traffic hub in public transport. The following tram , trolleybus and bus lines serve Bucheggplatz:

future

For several years there have been clarifications to extend tram line 15 from Bucheggplatz either to ETH Hönggerberg or to Affoltern . While electrification of the 69 bus line is now in the foreground for cost reasons and because of the steep sections on Tièche and Emil-Klöti-Strasse for the Hönggerberg, the Affoltern tram is in conflict between the high volume of traffic on the Wehntalerstrasse and the independent tram required Roadways in the way of realization. In 2014, as an alternative to developing the Science City ETH Hönggerberg, it was proposed to integrate it into the S-Bahn network via a tunnel station below the ETH Hönggerberg. The new S-Bahn route on the existing line from the main train station via Hardbrücke joins the new route to ETH Hönggerberg at the Letziviadukt and continues in the direction of Regensdorf, where it joins the existing line to Regensdorf at the level of Lake Katzensee. This would reduce the travel time from Zurich main station to the ETH Hönggerberg from today's 25 minutes to 6 minutes.

crime

On November 15, 1996, a car driver was hit in the neck by a shot fired from Tièchestrasse. The victim died in the hospital a day later. The case has not yet been resolved and the perpetrator is still fleeting.
