Coordinates: 34 ° 33 ′  S , 148 ° 22 ′  E Harden Shire was a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of New South Wales . The area was 1,896 km² and last had about 3,600 inhabitants. In 2016, the newly created Hilltops Council took off.

Harden was in the southeast region of the state about 130 km northeast of the Australian capital Canberra and 335 km southeast of the metropolis of Sydney . The area comprised 25 districts and towns: Aurville, Beggan Beggan, Berremangra, Bogolara, Boyeo, Cumbamurra, Cunningar, Currawong, Demondrille, Galong, Garangula, Harden, Kingsvale, McMahons Reef, Murrumburrah, Nannong, Nubba, Old Barwang, Prunevale, Redbridge , St Clements, Stanley Park and parts of Jugiong, Wombat and Young. The seat of the Shire Council was in Harden in the center of the LGA.

The Harden Shire Council had seven members who were elected by LGA residents. Harden was not divided into districts. The mayor of the council was also recruited from among the councilors.
