Harjot Oberoi

Harjot Oberoi is Professor of Asian Studies at the University of British Columbia .

Live and act

Harjot Oberoi is an avowed Sikh .

In 1976 he received his Bachelor of Arts with honors from St. Stephen's College, University of Delhi .

At the Center of Historical Studies at Jawaharlal Nehru University , he received a Master of Arts and Magister Philosophiae in Modern South Asian history . He wrote his master's thesis on Bhai Vir Singh.

In 1987 he was awarded the JG Crawford Prize for his dissertation at the Center for Asian Studies at the Australian National University .

In 1994 his book The Construction of Religious Boundaries: Culture, Identity, and Diversity in the Sikh Tradition was published . The book caused considerable controversy in Sikh science. Mohinder Singh Gosal, President of the Federation of Sikh Societies of Canada , even believed that Oberoi was part of an anti-Sikh conspiracy. Ultimately, this controversy led to Oberois being fired from the Chair of Sikh Studies.
