The Harkat-ul-Mujahideen (also Harakat-almujahideen , Arabic حركة المجاهدين, "Movement of the Holy Fighters") is a Sunni - Islamist organization that aims to re-establish the caliphate . The Harkat-ul-Mujahideen was founded in 1970 in Saudi Arabia . It is estimated to have a following of 1,000 to 2,000 armed fighters operating across the Middle East , but mostly in Iraq . The organization sympathizes with al-Qaeda and is viewed by experts as an extension of Iraqi al-Qaeda. In the USA , Harkat-ul-Mujahideen is listed as a " Foreign Terrorist Organization ".
