Harold Devine
Harold "Harry" George Devine (born May 18, 1909 in New Haven , Connecticut , † April 29, 1998 in North Oxford , Massachusetts ) was an American boxer who took part in the 1928 Summer Olympics in the featherweight division and won bronze.
Devine was National Champion of the AAU in 1928 and represented the United States at the Amsterdam Games . There he first met the Italian Fausto Montefiori and then the Finn Kaarlo Vakeva. In the semifinals, however, he was beaten by the eventual Olympic champion Bep van Klaveren . He then secured the bronze medal in the small final against Lucian Biquet.
His professional career was weakened by the fact that he was left-handed and other good boxers parried this well. However, in 1934 he achieved the title of the best boxer in New England , which he successfully defended once but lost that same year. When he went to Australia in 1935, two defeats finally brought him out of the ring.
