Harold E. Hughes

Harold E. Hughes (* before 1949 - April 13, 1985 ) was an American politician .

Life

Hughes graduated from the University of Virginia . In 1949 he finished his studies. During World War II he served in the United States Navy . Hughes later worked in Columbus , Georgia . He was among the founders of the first Volkswagen - car dealership in the city of Imported Cars Inc. , which later Hughes Volkswagen was. In 1963 and 1964 he held the office of Mayor of Columbus. In 1964 he ran for the first direct election of the mayor in Columbus, but was subject to the previous mayor pro tempore , B. Ed Johnson .

In 1979 he moved to Florida and opened Florida Car Co. , a car rental and limousine service.
