B. Ed Johnson

Benjamin Ed Johnson ( October 28, 1914 - June 8, 1983 ) was an American politician .

Life

Johnson was elected to the Georgia Senate in a by-election in the 24th Senate District on November 28, 1945 to fill the vacant seat of the late Senator H. Dixon Smith .

In 1960 and 1961 he was mayor of Columbus , Georgia . In 1964, Johnson ran in the first direct election of Columbus mayor and was again mayor of the city. His inauguration took place in January 1965. Johnson held the office up to and including 1968.
